چکیده
HE first seven generations of a selection experiment designed to allow exTperimental evaluation of a restricted selection index were reported by OKADA and HARDIN (1967). The index was computed to produce maximum response in 14-day larval weight of Tribolium castaneum while preventing a correlated increase in 30-day adult weight. Not only was the index effective for restricting the change of 30-day adult weight but also the results obtained from the index selection compared favorably with results obtained from direct selection for 14-day larval weight. NORDSKOG (1966) stated ". . . the elementary prediction equation of genetic gains in terms of heritability and selection intensity follows according to theory reasonably well in the earlier stages of a selection program but that for selection carried out over many generations, the prediction equation has almost no value." To obtain additional information concerning what happens when the restricted selection index is used, the selection experiment reported by OKADA and HARDIN (1967) was continued to generation thirteen. The results are presented in this paper.

Direct and correlated responses to artificial selection on sexual size dimorphism in the flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum.
Sexual size dimorphism (SSD) is a conspicuous yet poorly understood pattern across many organisms. Although artificial selection is an important tool for studying the evolution of SSD, previous studies have applied selection to only a single sex or to both sexes in the same direction. In nature, however, SSD likely arises through sex-specific selection on body size. Here, we use Tribolium casta...
متن کاملDevelopment of resistance in Tribolium castaneum, Herbst (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) towards deltamethrin in laboratory
A strain of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) was developed for resistance against deltamethrin, after six generation of selection from a laboratory susceptible strain, through topical application method. The selection was initiated at the dose 0.0004, which was increased during successive generations’ upto 0.026 in sixth generation. The resistance ratio of selected strain was determined, and it was...
متن کاملGrowth Rate, Body Composition, Cellular Growth and Enzyme Activities in Lines of TRIBOLIUM CASTANEUM Selected for 21-Day Pupa Weight.
Growth rate, body composition, cell number, cell size, and the activity of four dehydrogenase enzymes were studied from 10 to 25 days of age in one control (1C) and three lines (3, 9, 10) of Tribolium castaneum that had been subjected to long term selection for large 21-day pupae weight.-Selected lines were two- to three-fold larger in size than the control line throughout development. No major...

In this study, various doses of plant extracts that obtained from Bolanthus turcicus was applied to an important storage pest Tribolium castaneum adults. Bolanthus turcicus is an endemic species and spreads on the Hasan Mountain above Karkın town (Turkey, Aksaray province). The plant species was collected from June to July with the field study to be carried out in thi...
